Contemporary Villa, China
China
We are working on the full interior architecture and design of a striking contemporary villa, situated in a coastal city of extraordinary beauty on the southeastern coast of China. This grand neoclassical residence sits within one of Asia’s most culturally rich and architecturally significant urban landscapes, within a city shaped by centuries of cultural exchange along the Maritime Silk Road. The area’s architectural heritage is a compelling blend of colonial refinement, classical European influence and contemporary urban vitality a context that demands a sympathetic response and one we have approached with great care and curiosity.
The property itself is a study in classical grandeur. A symmetrical entrance, intricate cornices and expansive windows framed with decorative moulding define the exterior- its neoclassical language echoing the elegant colonial-era architecture of Gulangyu Island- a nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site- that has long defined the city’s architectural identity. High ceilings, meticulously crafted architectural detailing and generous, light-filled proportions create an interior canvas of exceptional quality and scale.
Our approach to the interior design responds sympathetically to both the architectural language of the property and the geographical and cultural richness of its setting. Working in harmony with the classical envelope, we have sought to enhance and elevate the existing proportions- maximising the sense of light and spaciousness, refining the spatial flow and creating a seamless dialogue between the interior and the coastal landscape beyond. The design layers refined materiality, considered detailing and a quietly luxurious aesthetic over the classical foundation of the building- resulting in a bespoke luxury interior that feels rooted in the history and culture of its extraordinary setting.
